Network Engineer – Tinley Park, IL

UGN, a world class manufacturer of acoustic, interior trim, and thermal management products for the Japanese transplant automotive industry in North America, is seeking a Network Engineer to join our team in Tinley Park, Illinois.

The Network Engineer’s role is to propose, develop, and maintain standards, procedure, and performance requirements for the Enterprise infrastructure network environment. Evaluate system designs, provide, and implement recommendations to improve performance, productivity, and functionality. The engineer’s primary task is the management and hands-on support of a broad spectrum of technology including Windows / Linux, workstations, LAN/WAN, telephony hardware, software, and operating systems. This is an extremely challenging role that demands strong technical leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, install, configure, and maintain network services/equipment.
  • Plans and supports network and computing infrastructure  including but not limited to  LANs, WANs, MPLS, and wireless networks, routers,  switches, and other hardware.
  • Expert knowledge of wide area networking concepts and designs including MPLS, DS3, bonded T1, WAN acceleration concepts and practical application, rate limiting, traffic shaping, and QoS.
  • Expert knowledge of complex routing, switching protocols and configuration (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and VLANs.
  • Expert knowledge of VPN concepts, security, and  implementation (Juniper, IPsec, SSL, NAT).
  • Knowledge of wireless networking installation and support (802.11a/ b/g/n, and Cisco’s AeroNet.
  • Ability to develop standards and/or best practices for LAN, WAN, VPN, and firewall configuration, implementation, hardware selection, and topology design.
  • Ability to effectively monitor, analysis, and initiate corrective actions that insure network device reliability and data integrity.
  • Knowledge of when and how new emerging technologies would solve a technical problem or enhance operational support services and the delivery of quality customer support services.
  • Support administration of servers and server clusters.
  • Active Directory 2008 experience in a multi-site 500 user environment. Proficiency with Active Directory toolset, ADMT, Group Policy management, replication, security, schema, DNS, DHCP domain administration is required.
  • Exchange 2003/2010 experience in a clustered environment. Proficiency required with Exchange Management Console, OWA, Exchange PowerShell, configuring/maintaining Exchange DAG, and account management.
  • Ability to maintain 30+ physical and virtual server Microsoft and VMware servers.
  • Blackberry Enterprise Service v5.0 a plus.
  • VMware VSphere creating and maintaining servers in a virtual environment.
  • Iron Mountain Mimosa email archive system a plus.
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint, IIs/Apache web servers.
  • Manage all system back-up, restore, and replication protocols Commvault experience recommended.
  • Working knowledge of SANs storage solutions Xiotech ISE.
  • Performs troubleshooting analysis of servers, workstations, and associated systems.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Monitors system performance and implements performance tuning.
  • Oversee software and network security.
  • Manage telephony equipment, and other network appliances.
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
  • Collaborate with system administrators, I.S. management, and department leaders to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science. Information technology and/or 5-10+ years equivalent industry experience.
  • Certifications highly recommended MCSE, MCITP, CCNA, CCNP, or  CCIE.
  • Systems: Windows, Cisco Systems, Linux, VMware, Hyper V, Cloud Computing.
  • Networking: Switches, Routers, Servers, Firewall, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, VoIP, QoS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, and MPLS.
  • Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Able to handle quickly changing directions/priorities.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills; target various organization levels.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and professional office experience needed.
  • On-call availability 365 day a year.
  • Limited travel required.
